  1. Kokoroko is a song by Kefee featuring Timaya. They are indeed from the Niger Delta region; Kefee being from Delta State and Timaya, Bayelsa. It is a Hip Hop Christian song which hit the market late 2009 but has since gained popularity nationwide. This song has both the video and audio version both of them still retaining its content apart from the visuals.
The video unfolds with Kefee and Timaya folding their hands to represent power and strength as “Kokoroko” means strong or tight. The name of the song is flashed continuously to also represent the same thing: Strength. Then the scene moves to a rural home setting of Kefee spreading out her clothes with such grace and peace as she sings of the unconditional love of God and her promise of not letting Him go. Then, Timaya is shown coming out of his house with a very big chewing stick still proclaiming the love of God. He further pleads with people to join him in praising God. Later on, the scene rotates from Kefee and Timaya dancing together in an open wooden house to Kefee standing in front of an old house with a lantern still singing. The video also shows a party scene where many people including children are dressed in traditional wears, dancing and praising the works of God. At the end of the song, people come out to the centre of the crowd and dance while the musicians lay emphasis on “Kokoroko” by repeatedly singing it. Then, Timaya ends with words of advice on the fear and respect of God.
In my opinion, Kokoroko appeals to me especially the message of God’s supernatural strength including the blend of voices. We can see the unity in the Niger Delta as this song signifies, for two people of different states to come together in one voice proclaim the power of God. In this context, it represents the solidness and unshakeable God’s love. The settings used: rural and urban, depict that irrespective of where you come from or where you live, you are still worthy of God’s love and your gratitude to Him is to praise Him. Although this video appeals to many, it may not appeal to all. Timaya used a chewing stick almost throughout the video. This may not make it come out on an international scale and may somewhat be a low standard because you do not see standard videos containing things like that. Also, it may take a while for one to realise it is a Christian song due to the lyrics. It sounds like a love song to a lover or earthly father. It is towards the end that we know it is a Christian song and when Timaya passes the message behind the song. Apart from these, this song is never gets old quickly as it is still being played today.

  2. MUSIC REVIEW OF THE SONG KOKOROKO BY KEFEE AND TIMAYA
The song kokoroko was released in May 2009 in Nigeria and it featured Kefee and Timaya as the performing artistes. The song is a gospel song that talks about the strong love of God and it’s a song of thanks and appreciation to God for his faithfulness. It is in both video and audio format. The song is a nice one combining local blend and more upbeat modern style together. The fusion of these produces great music. The music is very danceable, and entertaining. It is a song that a lot of people can relate to. The music video is also great, the scenes are simple but the message is clear (appreciation to God). The costumes are traditional as well. It starts off showing Kefee in a rural setting.
I like the song and I think it was a great work because not only was it glorifying God but it was also promoting one of the numerous cultures in Nigeria- the Niger Delta culture and the fact that the two artistes are from that region is even better. Also the artistes also made use of traditional costumes which also sent a strong message. I also like the fact that every aspect of the music was telling a story, in the beginning the artiste Kefee made use of a hand signal this symbolized strength, unity and togetherness. I give it a thumbs up.

  3. The song actually is aimed at praising God which she emphasised all the way down to the end of the song according to her statement 'The core message is of course gospel ministry; however, besides making people happy also, I wrote the songs for hearts that are hurting; I am hoping the lyrics heal the heart and put a smile on the face of anyone who hears it.”. This video was shot in Sapele, Delta state on Jan 29 2009.This very song I listened and watched it several times. The video which was shot in a village setting made it even more colourful meaning that she went back to her root which makes it’s a very video and song unlike other songs and videos it was very outstanding.
Talking about their performances it was outstanding because of the way they carried themselves in the video, I mean their mode of dressing {e.g. Timaya in a three quarter shot and kefee in a traditional attire} unlike other artiste they dress up in a flashy clothes and different type of things etc. I saw the video has original because not much effect where used in the video in fact only one effect was used {black and white Effect}.
In general the video according to me I find outstanding in the sense that they were modest in their use of words meaning that they made use of languages the public were used too but on the part of Timaya he kept repeating the word Yekhilemo at the end of the song which according to me meant he was out words and they failed to tell the public the meaning of the word but nevertheless the song was unique.

  4. MUSIC REVIEW OF SONG KOKOROKO BY KEFEE AND TIMAYA
Kokoro is a song by kefee a gospel musician, she featured timaya in the song kokoroko, kokoro was sang in the Niger delta dialect and a little bit of the bayelsa’s dialect too.
The song came out 2009 with a hit and the song is still much in vogue till now. The music video was shot in a rural environment with a lot of traditional dancers dancing to the song. The song is a gospel song depicting the wonders of God and the mercies of God. The song is a likeable song with a good meaning and content, the song is easy to learn and is danceable.
I personally like the video of the song especially their costumes, it really brought out the rich African culture and beauty. The location of the video is good and nice, the dancing in the video, I like so well too.
I see the video as promoting our Africa prestige and culture to the fullest, everything about the video is African, making us realize that our culture is none to compare with, the cinematography and directing of the video is perfect with clear picture quality.
I say a big well done to kefee for a nice job and for executing it well, it’s a different thing to have a nice song without a nice video, but she pulled it all nice concept, nice lyrics, nice song and nice music video to go with it. Thumbs up girl, she did a beautiful song.
The song and the video rhymed so well and the video really brought out the meaning of the song and timaya also did well too for playing his own part in the video well. This music video has gone places and will still go places, its an indigenous music video with a lot of meanings in it. I recommend this song to everyone it’s a must watch music video for everyone.

  5. Review of Music video of Kokoroko by Kefee featuring Timaya
Kokoroko is a Nigerian song of the Gospel genre, performed by Nigerian artistes,
Kefee Obareki popularly known as Kefee and featuring Timaya. Kefee is a gospel
singer, born in Sapele, Delta state, while Timaya is a Port-Harcourt born
artiste whose genre of music is a Nigerian-Afro beat style. The video is shot in
locations depicting the rural south-south nature. It begins with the two
artistes in a local house made of wood. Kefee is then shown spreading clothes
while singing the song and making gestures as to say she appreciates God. Timaya
is later shown beside two young men playing a local game of draft, while he is
dressed in traditional south-south style, while adding a touch of new-school
fashion by wearing a blazer. The final scenes show the two artistes and a group
of people all dancing, each person dancing freestyle to the song.
I think the performance of the artistes in the video is very admirable. It can
be seen that the concept of the video is in line with the song; a song of praise
to God, richly filled with lyrics in Warri language, traditional dances and
dressings and set in an environment that depicts a rural south-south area. Kefee
and Timaya performed wonderfully to portray the message behind the song, a
traditional song of praise to God.
In my opinion, I believe that the video is of good quality, the images are very
clear, the custom and chorography are in good relation but the video could have
added more cultural features and the aspect of spreading cloths while dancing
should be cut out because it presents the lady in romance with the dress and not
a human being or image of God. The song has a very cultural video with
traditional dances and fashion showing the rich south-south culture which is
also appluable. In all, the video is a job well done.

  6. kokoroko by Irikefe Obareki popularly known as kefee and timaya is an african gospel song.kefee is a gospel artiste while timaya sings Nigerian-Afro beat style kind of music.she was once married to a producer Alec but divorced march last year.kefee owns a non-profit organisation and she hails from Sapele, delta state.kokoroko means strong in urhobo language whickh means he song depicts strength.Timaya hails from Bayelsa state. This video was shot in Sapele, Delta state on Jan 29 2009.
The video is in a rural setting and kefee is seen spreading clothes on a line and telling God how much she loves him and won't let him go and she loves the way he holds her tight.timaya is later shown playing draft in his native-western attire.he wears a wrapper and a blazer. Then, Timaya is shown coming out of his house with a very big chewing stick still proclaiming the love of God. He further pleads with people to join him in praising God.
In my own opinion the song is a good song because it shows a child of God being gratefulto her father.it is danceable and is used in most churches for choreography.the music in actual sense should be a gospel song and timaya is not a gospel artiste though am not saying he isn't a christian.if something is gospel then it should be strictly gospel.apart from that the video did well in representing the Nigerian culture and the camera used was good.i can say that kefee did a great job.

  7. A REVIEW OF THE SONG “KOKOROKO” BY KEFEE FEATURING TIMAYA
Born to Deacon and Mrs. Andrew Obareki in Sapele, Delta State, Irikefe Obareki popularly known as Kefee has three brothers and two sisters. Her music carrier started at the age of eight in the children’s choir. She moved on to the adult choir when she was fifteen and when she was eighteen she was made the choir Director because, she could teach the three parts namely Soprano, Alto & Tenor. The choir released a couple of albums where she took lead vocals and backup vocals as well, unknown to her parents at that time that it would later lead to stardom. She earned her B.Sc at the University of Benin where she studied Public Administration. By this time she had already written well over 20 songs and had a greater passion for music.Kefee was shut to stardom in the year 2003 with the album release “branama”. Since then her name has been one which can’t be skipped when mentioning Nigerian gospel artistes. In the 2009 release “kokoroko” kefee featured the hip-pop icon Timaya. This led to a bountiful harvest for kefee as the album sold very fast.
The song is a gospel song in which the singer shows how much love she has for God. The song begins with a brief introductory scene, showing the two singers dressed like city people, introducing themselves as well as the song. The song continues with what looked like a playful lady (Kefee), filled with joy and happiness, spreading her clothes on the line. Timaya is seen in a sort of rural area setting with a chewing stick, playing the local game of draft. He gives thanks to God for all what He has done fro him. He makes good use of his chewing stick as he dances in thanksgiving to God. The song ends in what looks like a festive gathering.
The song is a good thanksgiving gospel song. It exhibits a good level of the southern culture. The dressing, the dance style, their environment and briefly, their way of life. The singers really show indepth gratitude to God. The first scene where kefee appears traditionally dressed with a basket of clothes depicts a joyful and happy Christian. She shows so much love for God in her physical appearance and the way she danced and played around. She shows that the happiness found in God can’t be found in any other place or with any other person. This song is a must have for gospel lovers.

  8. Kokoroko is a gospel Nigerian song , sang by a gospel Nigerian artiste featuring one of the most popular rural singer Timaya, Irikefee Obareki with stage name kefee born into a Delta family and Timaya also known as Egberi papa of Bayelsa was born into a Bayelsa family.
This collaboration made the song kokoroko have its African flavor which suites both rural and urban people. Kefee represented the urban people while Timaya represented the rural people.
To show the Africa richness of the song, the video is shot in places that depicts Africa. Such as places with vegetation , bamboo houses, a woman cleaning up , and African women are known for their strength in domestic works.
The video ends by showing what Africans are rich in doing which is dancing. We have people dancing at the end of the video.
There is a contradiction in the video when Timaya is shown with a chewing stick which shows the African mentality and then later seen with a blazer on an African attire though he may seem to call it “swagger” as it is used by the teenagers of now ,but it does not depict professionalism.
The video can be given an acknowledgment as to its quality, choreography, production and marketing.
THE VIDEO CAN BE GIVEN A 3 STAR RATING

  9. MUSIC REVIEW OF THE SONG KOKOROKO BY KEFEE AND TIMAYA
The song Kokoroko was written and performed by Kefee, daughter of deacon and Mrs. Obareki and it featured another artiste popularly known as Timaya. Kefee hails from Sapele in Delta state while Timaya is from Bayelsa. The song was shot on January 2009 and released later that year in May in Nigeria. The song was aimed at gospel ministry and Kefee talks about God’s undying love and sacrifice for us stating that on these grounds, there is no reason for her not to love and praise God.
The video was shot in Kefee’s hometown and the artistes were dressed in traditional attires to match the setting. First Kefee was shown spreading clothes while Timaya was playing a local game. Later on she was seen with a calabash on her head all the while praising God to show how content she is with her life just by knowing God loves her. At the end of the video, there was a lot of dancing.
I think this is a great song that would never get old. This song is unique because it achieved its objective and aim which was to pass along the message of God’s eternal love and to minister to people. And this was done using different techniques. Firstly, nobody was condemned in the song. It did not use the style of most gospel singers showing how one goes to hell for sinning, rather it just focused on God’s love in her life and the viewers would realize that they want what she (Kefee) has.
Secondly, the beat of the song is very engaging and the tune catchy so even if you stiffen your body and mind to it because it is a gospel song, that body is going to move and you would most likely find yourself humming to the song until you begin to listen to the words of the song and the message sinks in.
And finally, the song appealed to the traditional side of the people. It combined the culture of the two artistes to promote unity and love between neighbors. Based on the settings and attires, the song took people back to their African heritage. With all these techniques used, the song ended up being a great success.

  10. TITLE OF SONG: KOKOROKO BY KEFEE FEATURING TIMAYA
KOKOROKO is a gospel song sang by Irekefe Godwin popularly known as Kefee featuring Timaya, Kefee from Delta State and Timaya from Bayelsa State team up for a Niger-Delta blockbuster!, Kokoroko means "strong" or "tight, Kokoroko', a single off her last album titled 'A Piece of me'. The video was shot by Wudi Awa for Woodland productions, in Sapele, Delta state. The audio version of this song was released in December while the video was released on the 29th of April 2007.The song writer kefee say that she the love of the Almighty for her inspired it. When she got the concept of the song, at first it was okay. Later, along the line, in late 2007, the song was re-directed towards somebody (human) and she allowed it, even though she wasn't comfortable with it but she later decided to redirect it to God.
Concerning the performance in this video I will rate it 60 over 100, I like the way the song was expressed traditionally with the display of traditional cloths worn by kefee through out the video, including the featured artiste Timaya and in on scene combined both English and traditional wear and also at the initializing scene Kefee was shown together wearing a traditional attire while Timaya was wearing an English attire depicting the fusion of both culture that is the song the song is for everybody irrespective of your culture and also in the lyrics of the song the first part of the song was pure English then it was later diffused with pidgin and also traditional dialect which also depicts that the song is not only a traditional song but also an English song. There was a lot of traditional dancing in the song, considering the fact that the song was a dance hall song, which also added to the traditional feel of the song.
At the concluding scene children, youths, adults are seen praising God and dancing in a village setting depicting that the song is for both the old and the young and also shows how God is praised in the rural part of the Niger delta.
In my own opinion the direction of the video is not really good because they were some moves in the video that looked too choreographed like when two of them turned their head in different directions at the same time and at the beginning she was spreading clothes that did not suggest to the viewers was wet in any way because she held the clothe on her body and the clothes were not looking squeezed and were not dripping of water and at a particular point in the video she is seen holding a flask firmly and all this which I feel was highly unnecessary apart from this I think this song is a good song and will last in the market for a while.

    ALIU ADEOLA OLUWATOSIN.
In the 2009 release “kokoroko” kefee featured the hip-pop icon Timaya. The video was shot by Wudi Awa for Woodland productions. And was shot at Sapele, Delta state. The video was released the first week of April 2009 .Kokoroko which means 'Strong'. Nobody can love me like God; there is the way he loves holds me, guides me and protects me. This led to abundant harvest for kefee as the album sold very fast. And has become the top five on chart of most musical programmes.
The song is a gospel song in which the singer shows how much love and appreciation she has for God. The song begins with a brief introductory scene, showing the two singers dressed like city people, introducing themselves as well as the song. The song continues with what looked like a playful lady (Kefee), filled with joy and happiness, spreading her clothes on the cloth line. Timaya is seen in a sort of rural area setting with a chewing stick, playing the local game of draft. He gives thanks and appreciates God for all what He has done for him. He makes good use of his chewing stick as he dances in thanksgiving to God. The song ends in what looks like a festive gathering.

It combines the culture of the two artistes to promote peace, unity and love between neighbors. Based on the settings and attires, the song took people back to their African style and technique and the use of Pidgin English was used in the song. And it was a dancehall song With all these method used, the song ended up being a great success.
In my own view I feel the video technique is a simple one and shows the singer as a good child of God that shows in-depth appreciation to her father for his love and support in her life. I also like the chorography used by the singer. This video is work well done. I score kefee 70%.

    Lyrics:
    Intro:
It’s your girl Kefee & Timaya
    We dey hot like fire
But right now we dey strike like
    thunder,
And very soon we go dey blow like
    Bazooka
    Who dey our side?
    Na Jehovah.
    Kefee
I’m in love with you for real,
cos I’m among the ones you selected
You came to seal the deal, all
    my wrongs you corrected
And then you made an extra move,
by giving your life on Calvary
    too
What else am I gonna do but love
you, I love the way you changed
    my life
And I love the way you put a smile
    on me.
    I realize unconditional love
is what you have for me daddy
Your love for me dey kokoroko,
that’s why I no go let you go
    That’s why I say
    Chorus
I love the way you hold me - Kokoroko
    Your love is- Kokoroko
    I love you- Kokoroko (2x)
    Bridge
Baro vo buko, we o chuko (2x)
I will dance for you, my African dance
I will shout for you, I will lift
    my...
    Timaya
Hey I say this one na love song,
    but na for Chineke me
    Hey my brothers and sisters,
make una hear the Timaya and Kefee
    popodo ye
Everybody make una dey say if
    no be Jehovah
My brother na where I for dey today,
    people for carry me take
    Everybody make una dey say
    Yekhilemo (loop)
    Repeat Chorus.
Summary: the song is all about thanks to God for his faithfulness. It’s a narrative song.
Setting: it was both indoor (where Kefee was dancing inside) and outdoor (at the beginning of the video). Most of the video were shot outdoors; it shows the beauty of the nature and rhythm of the song. Since no one has seen or can see God, I feel that most of the video were shot out doors to tell of his nature.
Costume: it was done with the traditional attire. I guess it’s because, the song is both in English, Pidgin English and one of the Nigerian languages. The beat can also be described as a traditional one in which the traditional dance was done to it.
Sound/video: the sound effect and the video are great. But there are misplaced scenes.
I can heartily recommend this song and its video. But, I don’t understand why the song should start with the day light and end in darkness. Since the song is about thanking God for all he’s done, then the video should say “I was suffering (dark) but God has seen me through (light)-ending.

  13. MUSIC REVIEW
I will start by saying this ‘weldone kefee for bringing out the best christain hip-hop song ever’. This music review is on the song kokoroko by kefee featuring timaya. Both artist hail from niger-delta and are talented artist whoo know how to ddeliver great songs. Kefee is a gospel artist while timaya isn’t. Kokoroko is a Christian hip-hop song that has been a blessing to personsincluding myself. A proof of this is what persons have posted on the Bella Naija blogspot. ---
-deltaGyal January 27, 2009 at 8:53 PM I love it!!!
bin playin this song on repeat for d past 30mins n theres absolutely no diminishing effect….love it!ASO ---
March 15, 2009 at 7:23 PM ,,,Good job Bella. Kefee, don’t give up. Our God never fails. Just try not 2 go contrary 2 HIS way. Keep promoting Delta state n Niger-Delta at large. U 2 much.
This art work was released in 2009, may to be prĂ©cised in Nigeria. Thus having its setting in the Niger-Delta. This is a result of what the song stands for and due to the language of the song. The word ‘Kokoroko’ is a Niger-Delta language and the people from this part of the country are known to be vast in the language known as the ‘Pidgin’ language. Therefore since both artist hails from this part of Nigeria, I suggest the reason for picking the location. Looking at their performances, i’ll say its quite commendable as the message of the song was made clear. Going back to the lyrics of the song ‘ I’m in love with you for real, coz i’m among the one’s you selected......’. the expression of her (Kefee’s) love for God was clear as it showed on her face. Even the body language was clear. The dance, costume, the people are all attributes of the richness is the Nigerian culture ( Niger-Delta). Timaya’s performance in the video was also vibrant as he brought life to the song at the later part of the song. Based on all of my observations, I say Kokoroko is a love Christian Hip-hop song that brings the mood of people alife any time anywhere. Bella Naija-ElynRose August 3, 2010 at 7:12 PM kokoroko has been a blessing for me and my children to be precise. i wake up sometimes midnight to play kokoroko. thanks love!
I also like the fact that the song is a danceable one. Here is the comment of someone NG January 24, 2009 at 9:09 PM LIKE D BEAT. ITS IDEAL FOR A DANCE/ WORK OUT SESSION.

Although some persons feel since she feature a circular artist in the song would in a way affect her believe in Christianity, as seen in this comment; Juke January 23, 2009 at 12:21 PM -Gud 4 her. I heard she nw sings worldly songs. But here is what other persons think-Ovie O January 26, 2009 at 7:40 AM @ Juke, what you heard is not true. Kefee’s new album is 100% Christian. Infact, I think she put more effort into staying true to her faith than her previous albums. You’ll enjoy it!
In totality, Kokoroko is a beautiful song that is recommendable to all. Even Kefee herself recommends it to person” The core message is of course gospel ministry; however, besides making people happy also, I wrote the songs for hearts that are hurting; I am hoping the lyrics heal the heart and put a smile on the face of anyone who hears it.” Says Kefee.

    music review
The song ‘kokoroko’ was performed by Keffi and Timaya. Keffi is the original composer of the song while Timaya featured in the music. The song ’kokoroko’ means ‘strong’ or ‘solid’ or ‘hard’ and this is compared to the kind of love God has us and it is in the irobo language.it is a gospel song that is based on God’s love; It is unbreakable because it is built on a rigid ground. The song was released in may 2009,although it was premiered early that year and many raised eyebrows but when the contents were realised, it was the hit throughout the year. The video of the song was done in Niger delta because it was the base of the word ‘kokoroko’, she wanted it to be original to the smallest unit.
The video has a traditional setting and we see in the first scene; Keffi came out from a house and came to get her clothes from the line and she in the joyous mood started singing the song which declares the kind of love God has for her and she professes her love to him that cannot be compared with human love. In the second scene we see Timaya in his traditional wear and came out to sing and he emphasized that Keffi and him were in love with this God and they appreciate his goodness towards them. Other scene which included where Keffi came out in her carribean outfit with a hat and a basket containing different types of fruits and she called on the people in the area to come and dance and praise this God that she loves unexplainably. The final part of the video was when people came outside to dance with their
The video was realistic, the costumes and the setting were appropriate, the music correlated with the beat and the interludes were moderate and it was easily converted back to the music. My major criticism in this song is that Timaya who is a secular musician featured in this gospel song, i believe if you want to stand for Christian songs then do that without trying to dilute the purpose of the song which should be majorly gospel and spiritual. I think this song is a gospel song and not a spiritual one, it is entertaining and pleasurable for both the secular song listener and gospel song listeners. #

The song kokoroko which means strong or tight is a gospel song by two Nigerians (Niger Delta), Irikefe Obareki popularly known as Kefee from delta state featuring Enetimi Alfred Odom popularly known as Timaya from Odi Bayelsa state although he was born in port Harcourt rivers state. This song was released to the general public in 2009.
These artists in the song kokoroko sang of the love of God for them and how he strongly holds them. It also talked of the unconditional love of God for them which made him die for them. The song testified of the love of God for these artists that has taken them to the spotlight. They also displayed this in their dances and in their expressions.
The song had a rural setting and Niger Delta traditional attires. We also see Timaya making use of the traditional tooth brush (chewing stick). Apart from English, pidgin and two Nigeria dialects (urobo and ijaw) were used in the song. All these were used to promote the African heritage especially the Niger delta traditions.
I can boldly say that this song was able to pass out it massage and very well also. The artists were able to make use of hip pop beats, pidgin, its settings, it was able to interest and touch its audience. At the time it was released, even unbelievers couldn’t help but dance to the rhythm of this inspiring song. I would love to say a big congratulation to these Niger deltas for making use proud, and letting people know that Niger deltas are not just kidnappers and killers but also people that fear and love god. Thank you Kefee and Timaya this is a great work.

    TITLE OF SONG: KOKOROKO
    BY KEFEE FEATURING TIMAYA
The song kokoroko was written by irikefe obareki known popularly as kefee. In the song kefee featured timaya. The video came out towards the end of the year 2009. The setting in which the video was shot was o rural setting. To be more specific it looked like a village in the south-south part/ Niger delta region of Nigeria. It was done in this manner in other to further promote the richness of African culture.
The song was done several languages for example English, pidgin-English, a warri dialect etc. kefee made use of traditional dancers to choreograph the song inn order to further emphasise the cultural theme of the song. The song falls into the African gospel genre. Timaya is seen playing a local board game with other villagers but also adding a touch of style and new school to the setting as a result of his dressing. The song first glace seems like a love song from a young woman to her lover, but along the way it is revealed that the subject of her love is God. The title of the song is kokoroko which means strong and its emphasised in the video from time to time as the words are flashed across the screen.
In my own opinion the song is good song and the video was well done as the video quality was quite impressive. But he artiste kefee should have emphasized more the subject of her love i.e. God. Also there is a controversy that kefee should not have featured timaya in the song or video as he is not seen a gospel icon.
Apart from these few shortcomings the song is a very danceable and interesting gospel song

TITLE OF SONG: KOKOROKO BY KEFEE FEATURING TIMAYA
The song kokoroko is sung by two prominent Nigerian artists, kefee and timaya with original ownership by kefee. The song originally released to the public in 2009 is a gospel song with falls under the genre kefee belongs to. The song which is sung in the English language with timaya’s part in Pidgin English is set in a typical local Nigerian setting typical to the Niger delta region of the country. Kokoroko which is the chorus of the song is an appraisal to God almighty for his love and care. Kokoroko a word which indicates the level at God’s love, strength is measured as in the song ‘love the way you hold me, kokoroko’. There is a bit of local dialect pitched into the song.
The video is set in a traditional setting commonly referred to as a village setting of the Niger delta region of Nigeria. There is a lot of dancing in the video which runs from the day time period to the night time period. The song in general is a good display of artistic, singing and cultural art. This is typical of kefee who always carries her cultural heritage with good esteem in almost all her songs. This song beautifies the Nigerian culture and music as in the video which has people of all ages dancing and singing to the song.

  18. Performed by Kefee and Timaya, Kokoroko is a song that just keeps you nodding your head to the rhythm of the music and shaking your body to the beat.
Irikefe Obareki gospel african-traditional sensational musician who can be classified as being into a pop/rnb genre of music, and singer of hit songs like Branama 1, 2 and 3, kukuruku, to mention a few teamed up with Timaya an award winning Nigerian musician popular for socially conscious music that constantly references the role of God in overcoming difficult circumstances
This song just keeps both the young and old tapping their feet as it is such as vibrant and upbeat song.
Released in 2009, this song is a hit as people still hum and sing the song even if they have to chop-their-mouth just to sing along when the song is played anyitme and anywhere.
As clearly stated in the the song by Timaya, “this one na love song but na for chineke me”- my God depicting a loving relationship betwee God and his children who is appreciation have just words of thanks and affection to return for everything he has done for them.
The mixture of the English Language and Nigerian languages shows a deep respect and appreciation for culture... AWESOME!!! And which i think is an added advantage and the major reason why the elderly can identify with the song.
The soundtrack is catchy and the lyrics simple making it very easy to learn- a big plus. Who says Nigeria doesn’t have talent?
Way to go Kefee and Timaya. Five stars!!! And BIG-UPS!!! 

TITLE: KOKOROKO BY “KEFEE” FEATURING “TIMAYA”
This song is by a female musician Irekefe Godwin popularly known as Kefee and she featured Timaya a male musician. They sang the song “Kokoroko” which means “Strong”. She uses this song to express how nobody can love her like God as God had been her strength and it was produced in the month of April, 2010. The video of this song was shot in Sapele, Delta state and she produced this song because because of her love for God, even though she directed it at a human at first.
The performance in this video was satisfactory in terms of the fact that there was a lot of energy through dancing, movements etc. Then their performance was also very real as it depicted the traditional delta society in Nigeria with the dance steps, acts and the clothing worn.
There are also a lot of facial expressions which shows the mood of the singer.
Well, I feel this song was performed well, the video too was good as it showed the typical African society and she also uses the native dialect of Delta state. The costume was perfect for the song as it was traditional and the setting of the song was very adequate too and so many people featured in the video giving it an energetic atmosphere. It is nice to know that there are still gospel artists who can produce songs that wouldn’t sound boring to its audience. This is one song that has moved both believers and unbelievers as it as used the dancehall method to send a very crucial message to a lot of people regardless of who you are. i am giving them a big thumbs up.

  20. The song, kokoroko performed by Keffee and Timaya was directed by Wudi Awa for Woodland Productions. Written by Keffee and featuring Timaya , the song has been widely accepted in Nigeria and many other countries in and out of Africa. The single, kokoroko started airing on radio stations in December 2008 and the video, which was shot in Sapele, Delta State was released on the 14th of April,2009.
The video adopts a village setting (as directed by Wudi Awa) and it begins with an assumed person searching for a radio frequency to listen to and the person stops when she hears the song ‘kokoroko’ playin. In the beginning of the song, Timaya introduces himself and Keffee and then the song begins proper with Keffee spreading clothes on a cloth line. We see two people playing a board game and the scene moves onto Timaya, who chews on a chewing stick as he sings. At intervals, we see Keffee walking and singing as she holds a jug. The scene then moves to some sort of village gathering where people, including Keffee and Timaya are dancing and singing. This is the scene that ends the video.
Timaya’s introduction in the beginning of the song should be applauded as this helps persons who are not familiar with the song and the artistes to learn who sang it. As Keffee starts her solo, she spreads clothes on a clothline. I commend this concept because it is a normal occurrence for people to sing while washing and spreading clothes, but what I cannot seem to fathom is why the clothes are dry. Naturally, clothes are hung to dry, after they have been washed, but in this case, no explanation was offered as to why the clothes being hung were already dry.
The scene then moves onto Timaya, chewing on a chewing stick and at the same time singing. The setting here includes mats, which indicate that he is in the village as well. He is wearing a wrapper and beads, with a jacket. These also indicate that he is a villager and probably not someone of affluence. This implies that in any situation, the love of God does not waiver but stands strong and we should not forget that.
The next scene of the song shows Keffee walking with a jug in her arms while singing. First of all, the type of jug used does not fit well into the village setting. It is usually used in a contemporary setting, not a village setting. That being said, I also wish to call attention to the fact that Keffee was singing, ‘I love the way you hold me. kokoroko’. And whilst doing this she was hugging and holding onto the jug. The jug has no particular significance in relation to the song, because she did not do anything with the jug.
I applaud the use of pidgin and Keffee and Timaya’s indigenous language in the song. This indicates that any language can be used to glorify God and any language can be used in music.
In general, I believe and attest to the fact that the song, in itself, is a very good one, speaking to millions of people on the strength and faithfulness of God. But the video does not do it justice. I say this because there aren’t many representations of the lyrics of the song in the video. The song speaks about how God is strong and how He changed her life. There is nothing in the video that depicts what keffee is saying in the song.
At the end of the song, we see the letters ‘dne.’ Written. Most people do not know this, but that was the word ‘end’ spelt backwards. Writing ‘end’ as ‘dne.’ Has no denotation whatsoever. They do not share the same meaning in anyway. Also, the video quality is not up to standard.
The video shows no form of skill on the part of the director. In the future, we would like to see videos that correlate with the songs that have made a statement and videos that are of good quality.

  21. “I love the way you hold me-kokoroko”. Kokoroko in the local Nigerian dialect called Isoko means Strong or Strength. This is a gospel love song by two Nigerian artists in the persons of Irikefi Obareki popularly known as Kefee and featuring Enetimi Alfred Odom popularly called Timaya or nicknamed Dem Mama Soldier or Egberipapa 1. Timaya and Kefee are highly involved in Niger Delta Blockbusters mainly for the promotion of God’s performances in their lives and the spread of the gospel in the lives of others. Timaya, born and bred in Rivers State hails from Bayelsa as he gives odes to Bayelsa in most of his songs. Kefee was born in Delta State; the Southern part of Nigeria and has been into gospel music for 15 years now; she sings in both Isoko language and English Language. The collaboration of these stars brought the birth of this blockbuster, Kokoroko.
Kokoro is one of a kind; it is a unique song and so is the performance and the production; at the very beginning, the voice over which goes ‘Ladies and Gentlemen” is an attention magnet as my own attention was imprisoned by such a calling. Another occurrence that dragged my attention was the camera shots and poses of Kefee and Timaya; the flashes are unified and do not make the video look too clumsy. While some African stars would shy away from the African culture, Kefee and Timaya rather embraced it as it is seen when Kefee comes to dry her clothes in a plastic basket and while doing this, she is engrossed in singing and making gesticulations and signs of her love for God. The uniqueness of this video is also in the use of pidgin language by Timaya at the intro where he says; we dey hot like fire… Who dey our side? Na Jehovah. The scene of dawn which is the rising of the sun shows God’s sovereignty and utmost beautification of nature. There is a night scene with children, the young, middle aged and the old people, dancing to the tune of this song which to me depicts unity in the sight of God almighty. Also another sign of unity is Timaya attire where he puts on Jeans trousers and a T-Shirt, a top hat and a wrapper/scarf in local Ankara tied over his shoulders, this shows a union of the European and the African culture.
In a Classicist’s view, I would say that this music video has adhered to the rules of the unities of place, time and action. It also imitates reality and shows what we would do in our lives as Africans in the morning such as chewing the stick, carrying flasks to make tea for our families or pap amongst other activities.
In this music video, two boys are seen playing a board game wearing masks of seriousness on their faces and they are not even looking into the camera; I also noticed the part where Timaya is carrying a very long stick and this stick could probably be confused to be a twig or a cane because the length is quite absurd for an early morning African chewing stick.
I find the part where Timaya is chewing his stick and spitting to the side of the camera rather appalling than appealing. I also wonder what Kefee would be doing with an aluminum flask where it was not made use of at all.
This music video is supposed to be a Christian music video and I do not see any reason why Timaya would be making some funny dancing steps behind Kefee in the name of a dance in a gospel music video; they would have both faced the camera instead of Timaya standing behind Kefee.
This award winning hit is mind blasting, head shaking and body moving but best in its audio. I must say to Kefee and Timaya, this was indeed a good try. I hope the quality of any music video in the future would be appealing.
