TV PROGRAM REVIEW (“INSIDE AFRICA” ON CNN)

First, you need to actually watch the show and secondly do a little background research on the presenter, director, writers, and crew. Make notes.

Next, find your niche audience for the review e.g. if you are writing a review for a family-friendly publication, you would likely turn thumbs down on a show containing too many music slots. However, if you are writing for a young adult or college audience, you would likely give the same program two thumbs up. Think about the audience you are writing for and tailor the review to that audience.

The review generally should start out with a brief opinion as to whether or not the show is worth the audience's time. The review then dives into the basic premise and/or plot of the episode or season, highlighting the stars of the show, the production values, and the writing. Then as the critic tell your audience what makes the program great and not so great. If you really like the program, allocate 75 percent of this section to the positives, and vice versa. In your conclusion, use a trademark acceptance (i.e. "two thumbs up") if you recommend the program or thumbs down if not recommendable to your target audience.

  2. THE REVIEW OF TELEVISION PROGRAMME INSIDE AFRICA ON CNN
BABIES BEHIND BARS DOING TIME WITH MOM Johannesburg (CNN)

This program is sponsored by Zenith Bank and it airs every Sunday by 4.30 pm. The program aims at revealing deep rooted problems in Africa and bringing people’s attention to it so as to trigger solutions. It is shown in a documentary styled format

This episode is based on how female prisoners are allowed to serve time with their babies in South Africa. The South African laws allows mothers to keep their babies with them till the children are about 2 years old from where they are transferred to orphanages or relations of the prisoners.

Experts around the world argue that it is not correct for children to serve time with their mother as an experience like this can be emotionally scarring for them. Even though the correctional facility tries to make the amenities child friendly and as conducive as possible it is still not good enough according to Moipane Nkwana their lives are defined by the strict routine of the prison cell.

South Africa faces a dilemma as they know mothers need to bond with their babies but they are also aware of that raising a child behind prison walls is not the best, however their hands are tied as most of the inmates are either foreigners or have no one to go to.

The Documentary is interesting and captivating keeping you glued to the story. It tells the story in a simple and direct format with no added drama just the direct way. it runs for about an hour.
It helps in highlighting some of the societal ills many of which most people are unaware up. It’s a good work.

    TV PROGRAM: INSIDE AFRICA

Inside Africa is a show shown on CNN and it is usually live. This show is indeed worth watching because it talks about the cultural trends and personalities that help to mould Africa beyond the traditional setting it falls under. In essence, it educates not only Africans about Africa. It is a weekly half hour feature program. The viewing time for it is:
    Saturday- 11:00am-11:30am, 5:30am-6:00am
    Wednesday: 5:30am-6:00am
    Tuesday: 9:30am-10:00am
There are different episodes but everything still concerns Africa. I will be looking at an episode on Travellers flock to Africa’s Miracle Oasis. It is about Okavango Delta, Botswana. It tells of how the heart of Botswana turns from parched savannah into rich wetland and the Delta springs to life. This natural occurrence attracts tourist from all over the world hoping to catch a glimpse of this changing landscape. As the landscape dramatically transforms from desert to wetland, nature bursts into life and visitors begin to arrive in the area. In Botswana, Okavango tourism is second to only diamond mining as a foreign-exchange earner. As Botswana enters its dry season the Delta's water level will reach its peak, fuelled by rainwater that has travelled from Angola. In Botswana we have maybe an average of 450 millimetres a year of rain on the Delta itself. In the highland of Angola they have more like 1,500 millimetres a year, so it's about three times as much rainfall and that flow that comes from the rainfall is what sustain the Delta itself.
Well this is indeed a lovely programme and I recommend it to every educated person in the world especially African’s including those in another person’s country who do not even know much about Africa.

  4. Inside Africa is a weekly, half-hour feature program that showcases trends and current affairs in Africa. The show aims at giving viewers all over the world, an insight into the cultural trends and developments that define Africa. It helps audiences around the world to decipher between speculation and true, confirmed reports. Personalities pertaining to the show being broadcast are interviewed to give their opinions. The show is sponsored by Zenith Bank and airs at specific times on CNN. They are as specified below:
    Sunday- 11:30PM, 2:30PM
    Tuesday- 7:30PM
    Wednesday- 3:30AM
    Saturday- 3:30AM, 9:00AM, 4:30PM
I am reviewing the show as a whole, but focusing on just one episode that I watched. The name of this episode is ‘Babies Behind Bars Doing Time With Moms.’ This episode focuses on how South African laws permit female prisoners in South Africa to serve their time with their babies. The laws allow them to have their babies in prison with them until they are two years of age, when they are removed from their custody and taken to their relatives or orphanages.
Professionals and experts in so many other countries object to this law as they say allowing the babies to stay in prison with their mothers may eventually result in the children being psychologically traumatized. The authorities of prison and detention facilities say the facilities are conducive for children but experts still say it is not appropriate.
The government of South Africa are in a tight spot as they realise children have the need to grow to know their mothers and create a bond with them. They also realise the point experts are making in that it is not appropriate for children to grow within the confines of a prison yard.
Like every episode, this feature program has brought to the forefront, a striking problem in Africa. The show presents different sides to story and tries to make audiences understand different people’s standpoints. It is with this premise, that I give ‘Inside Africa’ two thumbs up. It is a show for Africans and the world at large to watch in order to be informed and enlightened.

Inside Africa is a news magazine programme, show on CNN which features reports on African political and social issues. It looks at the present news making events, celebrity profiles and rising celebrity profiles from all around the continent. The programme is mainly appealing to the adult audience as it tends to talk about serious issues that children may not be interested in. Inside Africa is a magazine program produced by CNN which is hosted by Isha Sasey who was formally a weather reporter for CNN. It is a weekly program that runs for half an hour but is packed with interesting stories from all over Africa.
First I would personally recommend inside Africa to the educated and adult audience because it tends to shed light on the African continent and bring up rising issues happening in other countries that one might not know of. It also allows the audience to comment and add to issues posted on its facebook page.
An episode of inside Africa mainly starts with the most important news, mostly on politics and business in the continent. Then it moves on to expose, profile on people and places. On the last episode of inside Africa, the profile was about a Kenyan comedian called Churchill. He talked about the difficulty in the industry and his mode of preparation before a show. Next, the program exposed the case of the Tanzanian night homeless boys who have being a case of worry for the country and citizens. The boys come out at night, begging and occasionally causing a menace of the whole place. A charity home called the wetutu foundation takes it upon themselves to go after these boys and bring them into the shelter. The organisation gives them education, and professional craftsmanship. Then the show also exposed the audience to the present situation in Mali, where young girls are sent to the gold mines to work rather than go to school. It is believed that the gold mines are the only sure way to make ends meet in a country that is regarded as one of the poorest in the continent.

  6. Program: Inside Africa.
Topic: Documentary on Eko Atlantic City.
    Presenter: Isha Sesay.
    Channel: CNN.
    Duration: 45 minutes.
Isha Sesay a UK born Sierra Leonean is the host and the presenter for the TV program Inside Africa on CNN; she anchors the program International Desk and also presents CNN’s backstory in the absence of Michael Holmes.
Sesay after graduating began her television career as a researcher for BBC talk show ‘Kilroy’ as an unpaid volunteer but later she became a full-time employee. In 1998 she moved to Glasgow to work for BBC Scottland,, after some time, she later got a job which is recorded to be her first as a TV presenter on BBC Choice. She has worked in many media houses such as BBC, TWI, Sky and presently, she is with CNN.
This 45 minutes program ‘Inside Africa’ should be given a 5-star accreditation considering that the audience is either youths or adults or professionals. The only set of people that Inside Africa was not put in mind for are children probably because they may not comprehend what the presenter is saying or they may just nit have a clue on what the program is all about.
There was a Documentary on Eko Atlantic City on Inside Africa where there was an overview of Lagos State and how there was flood caused by this water and the fun it brought to the people of Lagos. The reporter further talked about the ways the people have been living and possible ways of avoiding erosion. He goes further to tell us that the Eko Nigerian Island has been shrinking in size for decades and losing up to 10 meters of shore line a year. Lagos is also being referred the worlds’ largest city and having sky high prices and the availability of land and houses that are being critically low.
Inside Africa is an explicit program, I feel that this is one international program on Africa that has finally changed the belief that Africans “lived on trees or that Africa is a dark continent and it is barbaric”, I love the camera angles, shots and coverage. I love the fact that they always show the way Africa exactly is; they bring out the good, the bad and the ugly; there is no covering up or trying to hind.
The most thrilling aspect of Inside Africa is that the presenter travels from far away to see and talk about Africa.
I’ll give Inside Africa 5 starts and 2 thumbs up because its contents are ever promising on all things ranging from Africa’s economic, political and social views of Africa. Indeed Inside Africa is well put together by professionals.
I give this program 2 thumb up.
